How do I apply?
We are looking for passionate interested women from Kansas. Learn more.
What will I do?
- Develop a community of practice that empowers women from Kansas and around the globe
- Study the Adaptive Leadership model to address an issue they would like to make progress on in their community
- Participate in a 9-month “follow on” program to help continue the work started at the Institute
How long is the program?
The program is about six-weeks long. This year the program is from the last week in June to the last week of July.
How is the program funded?
There are two funding sources. The women who participate from countries outside the US are funded by a grant from the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Our Kansas participants are funded through generous donations to the KU Endowment Association. The program covers all costs for participants, so that financial need does not limit anyone from participation.
We host approximately 10 Kansas women, along with approximately 20 international women.
What is the selection process like?
Kansas women will apply in late fall. During mid-December, the first round of finalists will be announced and interviewed. Participants will be selected and notified by mid-January, and need to return a letter of commitment by January 29th.
International women will be selected by their home country and should be in touch with their local US Embassy or Consular Office for more information.
What is the age range of participants?
Participants are between the ages of 17 and 25, and must have one year of school left after the conclusion of the institute.
How can I support the program?
The KWLI depends upon the generous donations from its supporters to thrive. If you are interested in making a donation, please click here. All donations are tax deductible via the KU Endowment Association.
